In the era of Industry 4.0, smart factory construction driven by IoT technology is a critical pathway for the manufacturing industry to achieve high-quality development. By deploying sensor devices to monitor environmental parameters in production workshops, factories can establish risk early-warning and proactive prevention systems. This not only enhances production safety but also intelligently regulates energy consumption, reducing resource waste and carbon emissions. It serves as a key solution for meeting both safety production and "dual-carbon" (carbon peak and neutrality) requirements while propelling the industry's shift from traditional manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing—a strategic move aligned with global sustainable production trends.
Project Overview
Located in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, the Beijing Benz factory boasts an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles. As a flagship example of Beijing's automotive industry transitioning toward advanced and precision manufacturing, Beijing Benz integrates world-class production techniques with modern management practices. Upholding a craftsman spirit, it continuously drives high-quality development and has earned accolades such as "Global Excellent Operation Factory," "Green Demonstration Factory," and "Beijing Intelligent Manufacturing Benchmark Enterprise."
Solution Design
Spanning 210,000 square meters, the Beijing Benz factory houses stamping, welding, painting, and assembly workshops. To ensure product quality and production safety, the factory imposes strict standards on workshop environmental parameters, including temperature, humidity, CO₂, volatile organic compounds (TVOC), and PM2.5 & PM10. Milesight IoT sensors and gateways were deployed to enable real-time monitoring of these parameters, ensuring compliance and safeguarding high-quality production.
AM319 Multi-Parameter Indoor Environmental Sensor: Installed across workshops, the AM319 monitors temperature, humidity, CO₂, TVOC, and PM2.5 & PM10. When thresholds are exceeded, it triggers alerts, allowing the platform to dynamically adjust ventilation rates based on real-time data.
UG65 Indoor Gateway: The UG65 ensures full LoRaWAN® coverage throughout the production area. Sensor data is transmitted wirelessly via LoRaWAN® to the gateway, which then relays it to a third-party management platform via MQTT protocol.
Project Benefits
Efficient Wireless Transmission: Leveraging LoRa® technology, the wireless sensor-gateway network eliminates complex wiring, reduces costs, shortens deployment time, and enhances retrofit efficiency.
Comprehensive Monitoring Capabilities: The compact yet high-precision AM319 supports diverse monitoring needs in complex industrial settings, enabling holistic workshop environmental oversight with a single device.
Data-Driven Optimization: Collected data powers intelligent ventilation strategies, ensuring compliance with environmental standards while minimizing energy waste—bolstering both production safety and sustainability.
In the age of intelligent connectivity, IoT technology is becoming indispensable to industrial production. By accelerating the digital and green transformation of traditional manufacturing, it fosters a synergistic industrial ecosystem that strengthens safety protocols while driving low-carbon evolution—ultimately reshaping production models into safer, more efficient, and sustainable paradigms.
